Gonna be a long weekend

It’s been a decent week of training but not great. I swam a mile straight for the first time this season and felt totally relaxed and able to easily swim quite a bit more. I usually put together swim workouts that comprise of a warmup, a couple of main sets, and if there’s time, drills and kicking. Typically, the distances add up to 1.5 to 2.0 miles in a session, but I rarely do it straight through. That’ll be the focus in the coming weeks as I’ll work towards doing a straight 1.5 mile swim, and eventually 2.0 miles straight.

I’m going to my college roommate’s house on Friday night to celebrate his birthday and figured that I’d do a 90 mile bike ride the next morning on the service road of the Long Island Expressway since it’s much flatter than the route that I normally take in NJ for my long rides. The Brazil course is said to be rather flat, thus my desire to avoid hill training as much as I can… for now. On Sunday, I’m planning on an 18 mile run in Central Park. I think that psychologically, it won’t be that hard since I’ll be doing a couple of extra lower loops where many tourists are, thus providing me with lots of distractions to the fact that… egad… I’ll be running 18 ridiculous miles! Rest assured, I’ll have water stops available to me this time around!

More to come on how the extreme distances worked out for me…
